Stolen Modern Warfare 3 disc in the wild

With its release still nearly two weeks away, a pirated version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is reportedly doing the rounds in America.

VentureBeat reports that a single disc two of the PC version of the game was stolen from a Californian shipping warehouse. It speculates that tight security preventing the stealing of both the discs that comprise the release.

US investigators have already begun knocking on doors to request that those in receipt of a copy hand it over to the authorities. Those who refuse face a $5,000 fine and a possible online ban.

As Call of Duty continues to gain popularity, so too does the hunger for pirates to get hold of it early.

The good news for Activision is that both Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops were leaked online ahead of their official release, yet their sales remained monstrous.
