Switch games taste deliberately horrendous

Is this the best bit of Switch functionality of the lot? We reckon it might be.

So Kotaku does this thing called Snacktaku where it tastes and reviews food. Normally actual food, you understand. After US games journalist Jeff Gerstmann revealed via Twitter that he had indeed tasted a Switch cartridge – and that it was unthinkably disgusting – Snacktaku got to work.

And it concurred – Switch games taste worse than you can possibly imagine.

Of course we don’t blame you if you’re reading this and screaming something along the lines of DEAR GOD ARE YOU KIDDING ME? YOU CALL THIS GAMES JOUNALSIM? NO WONDER THE GAMES MEDIA IS DYING OUT AND BEING REPLACED WITH SCREAMING TEENAGERS PEDDLING PROMOS FOR FREEBIES. BE GONE WITH YOU. WE’RE GOING TO AD BLOCK YOU TO DEATH.”

But all of this does lead to an interesting point – Nintendo has designed Switch games to taste deliberately foul.

To avoid the possibility of accidental ingestion, keep the game card away from young children,” the company said. A bittering agent (Denatonium Benzoate) has also been applied to the game card. This bittering agent is non-toxic.”

Denatonium benzoate is apparently the most bitter chemical compound known to man, and is often as a deterrent to eating. You have perhaps most likely encountered it in the form of liquid that can be spread on nails like nail varnish to stop people from biting their nails.

It’s implementation here seems pretty sensible, as most parents and dog owners will likely agree.

So there you have it. Here’s Kotaku enduring the taste ordeal, if such things tickle your fancy:
