At the recent Video Game Awards, Naughty Dog showed of a new trailer for The Last of Us, which ended with a long-awaited announcement of the game’s release date.
The new trailer showed new characters, environments and gameplay elements such as horse-back riding, and teased a few plot details as well.
The Uncharted developer had been tight-lipped on a release date for the new survival-action title, but the trailer ended with a reveal of the release date – 7th May, 2013. It is unclear if this date applies worldwide or only to the US.
Naughty Dog has also confirmed that the game will feature a multiplayer mode. Multiplayer-based preorder bonuses such as character skins, bonus XP, in-game cash and a multiplayer melee attack booster” had been spotted at US games retailer GameStop.
Following the revelations, Naughty Dog community head Arne Meyer posted on the PlayStation Blog – "We’re not quite ready to talk about it yet, but stay tuned as we’ll be revealing more details on multiplayer before The Last of Us is released”.
