There are two new Lumines games on the way

Handheld puzzle series Lumines is making a return with two new instalments this year.

Destructoid reports that Mobcast, which acquired the Lumines and Meteos licenses from Q Entertainment a year ago, has confirmed both the vanilla Lumines 2016 and a free-to-play title named Lumines VS.

The former is due for a summer release and the later some time this winter, both on iOS and Android.

The pair are being made in conjunction with Q boss Tatsuya Mizuguchi, the creator of both series as well as other hits such as Rez and Space Channel 5, and his new studio Enhance Games. Mizuguchi left Q in 2014.

Lumines made its debut on PSP in 2005. It first appeared on mobiles back in the pre-smartphone days of 2005. An iOS version, called Lumines Touch, was released in 2009, although it is no longer available. Other versions have also been made available both on Xbox 360, PS2, PS3 and Vita.
