Ubisoft admits to pondering THQ asset swoop

French publisher Ubisoft has stated that it would consider moving for some of THQ’s assets were the company’s troubles to deepen.

"They have good things," Ubisoft chairman and CEO Yves Guillemot told Games Industry. "We are always interested in good brands. It’s something we can consider, but I can’t tell you more.

"What happened to THQ is something that happens regularly when we have transition. Some can make it, some decide to go in different direction. It happened with Atari and Midway and also Acclaim last generation. It’s something that happens in this industry and that’s the way the industry consolidates."

THQ’s owned IP include the likes of action brand Saints Row, horror shooter Metro, Darksiders, Homefront, Company of Heroes and MX vs ATV. It also owns Red Faction, which still maintains value despite being abandoned by the company.

Licensed partners include WWE, South Park and Warhammer.
