Rumours of further trouble at Crytek are circulating

Crytek appears to be in financial trouble once again.

The rumour mill kicked into gear following a post on Reddit from what appeared to be a worried employee claiming they hadn’t been paid for six months. Said the poster: This has happened in the past a few times, but never for this long. Management never gives anyone a heads up, and it isn’t clear to me if they are getting paid or even informed from the owners.”

Similar claims litter the company’s Glassdoor page, too.

Kotaku reports that indeed pay has either been late or missed entirely through most of 2016, with management telling staff just last week that efforts were being made to secure further investment and finance, some of which may come from asset sales.

Both Polygon and Eurogamer report similar stories from other sources, too.

All of this harks back to the situation that played out in 2014, where salaries again fell several months behind. The company at the time claimed that the problems had been resolved, however.

Like the games industry as a whole, Crytek has been in a transitional phase. Our evolution from a development studio to an Online-Publisher has required us to refocus our strategies. These challenges go along with an increased demand for capital which we have secured,” it said in June 2014.

Ultimately, with our organization, capitalization, portfolio and technologies we have now laid the foundations for securing Crytek’s future – not just in the short term, but also long term.”
