Destiny launch sparked ‘biggest US PS4 hardware sales week’ of the year

Sony’s US VP of developer and publisher relations says more PS4 consoles were sold during the Destiny launch week than any previous week all year.

The stat was revealed by Adam Boyes on the US PlayStation blog, although he did not detail exact numbers.

In the UK the Destiny launched helped PS4 pass 1m sales, with 46 per cent of all Destiny games sold on Sony’s latest format.

"Destiny also racked up some impressive gameplay stats, with PS4 players across North America collectively accumulating more than 11 million gameplay sessions – that’s a lot of Guardians," he said. "Destiny players have also made full use of PS4’s social features; it was the most shared and most broadcasted PS4 game during its first week on sale."

Sony has been spending big to ensure PS4 is seen as the home for Destiny. The game will receive PS4-exclusive DLC, the alpha was only available on PS4 back in June and Sony also ran a series of ads to promote the game. That’s alongside special PS4 bundles, including a new white PlayStation 4 console.
