LA-based developer becomes latest studio affected by downsizing at Foundation 9

25 layoffs as ImaginEngine closes doors

Apples to Apples developer ImaginEngine has been closed down with all 25 staff being laid off at the studio.

As reported by Gamesbeat, the Los Angeles-based developer, owned by US firm Foundation 9, has created more than 200 titles since it was founded in in 1994.

The news of the studio’s closure follows a large number of layoffs at Backbone Entertainment, which is also part of Foundation 9 Entertainment. Other developers owned by the company include Double Helix, Pipeworks and Sumo Digital.

Develop has contacted the firm for comment on both closures, but we have yet to receive a response at the time this story was published.

As well as creating XBLA, PSN, Facebook and mobile title Apples to Apples, ImaginEngine has worked on games such as Puss in Boots, Pokemon: Team Turbo, Scrabble, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Tetris Elements.
