Developer to focus on making games for mobile

Codemasters opening new Malta studio

Codemasters is opening a new studio in Malta later this summer, a spokesperson has confirmed to Develop.

It will be the second overseas office for Codies, having previously set up shop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Talent acquisition manager Simon Miles told Develop the racing games outfit is actively recruiting within Malta, and the studio will focus on making games for smart devices.

“Building on the success of our first overseas studio in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, we will be opening our next in Malta this summer; it’s a hotbed for local programming and development talent working in other industries,” said Miles.

“We’ve enjoyed tremendous support from Malta Enterprise, the national development agency, and it has expressed excitement in welcoming our game production heritage to the country. We’re now actively recruiting within Malta for the team, which focus on games for the smart device market and work in parallel with our studios here in the UK.”

A growing number of studios have begun opening offices in Malta this year, including UK developer Exient and more recently Metro series creator 4A Games.
