Co-founder of City of Heroes and Star Trek Online studio to head up DC Universe Online team

Cryptic Games veteran named new Daybreak Austin CEO

Jack Emmert, the co-founder and former chief creative officer for Cryptic Studios, has been appointed as the new CEO of Daybreak Games’ Austin studio.

Emmert helped found Cryptic in 2000, going on to lead development on prominent MMO titles such as City of Heroes, Champions Online, Dungeons & Dragons, Neverwinter and Star Trek Online.

He joins the team working on superhero-themed MMO DC Universe Online, which originally launched back in 2011 before coming to PS4 in 2013 and Xbox One earlier this year.

Emmert will report to the San Diego HQ of the H1Z1 and Planetside 2 developer.

“I’m very proud of what we accomplished at Cryptic Studios and I’m ready for a new set of challenges,” he said.

“I look forward to being a part of the future of DCUO, as well as guiding our roster of new titles out of Daybreak Austin.”
