China branch to work on CryEngine 3 and provide support for free-to-play shooter Warface

Crytek heads to Shanghai with new studio

Crytek has expanded its operations to Asia by opening a new studio in Shanghai, China.

The new branch will focus on the company’s development platform CryEngine 3 and the regional operation of the studio’s free-to-play title Warface.

The new branch will provide support for CryEngine licensees as well as developing new features for the tech specifically designed for the Asia market.

Crytek Shanghai Software will also focus on regional operations for its free-to-play online shooter Warface alongside Chinese publishing partner Tencent.

The news follows Crytek’s licensing deal earlier this year with Tencent, which it will now work with at its new Shanghai office.

“It’s a very exciting experience for us to have Tencent as our eighth CryEngine licensee in China," said Crytek’s global business development director Carl Jones.

"We’re delighted that Tencent have chosen CryEngine for what promises to be a very interesting title.

“Our experienced support team has been working with Tencent for a while now and we’re all really impressed with the work from Tencent’s developers, who are looking to achieve an ambitious vision.”

Tencent producer Weishitao added: “We selected CryEngine 3 after researching most available cutting-edge 3D game engines. CryEngine 3’s high quality graphics, built-in physics engine and powerful game creation toolset are exactly what we want.

"We’ve made a high quality playable game prototype within 3 months. It has been a great experience working with Crytek.”
