Liu takes up role of creative director at new Stockholm base

DICE senior producer Patrick Liu heads to Rovio

EA DICE senior producer Patrick Liu has quit his role at the Battlefield developer and joined Rovio Stockholm.

Liu becomes the first hire at the Angry Birds studio’s new Sweden office, led by the former GM of EA Easy Oskar Burman.

He will take up the position of creative director.

“Excited to finally reveal our first hire! Game developer legend Patrick Liu will join as Creative Director of Rovio Stockholm,” said Burman on Twitter.

Liu added: “Rovio feels awesome, can-do mentality, big ideas, agile, empowering, disruptive. Looking forward to new and exciting challenges.”

As well as working at DICE for more than five years on titles such as Battlefield 3, Bad Company and Medal of Honor, Liu has also previously worked as associate producer at another Sweden studio, Starbreeze.

The news comes shortly after Battlefield 3 lead designer David Goldfarb also left the studio to join Starbreeze as game director at its newly established Stockholm base.
