EA: We have no games in development for Wii U

EA is not developing any games for Nintendo’s Wii U, a spokesperson for the company has claimed.

The publisher had previously announced an ‘unprecedented partnership’ with Nintendo for the new console at E3 2011, but a poor showing from the device at retail seems to have cooled EA’s entusiasm.

"We have no games in development for the Wii U currently," EA spokesperson Jeff Brown told Kotaku.

Brown said the early runs of Mass Effect 3, Need For Speed: Most Wanted, Madden and FIFA represented the company delivering on its partnership.

Earlier this month, EA confirmed it had no plans to bring Madden 25 to the Wii U, and this latest news comes as a further blow to Nintendo’s already dimmed expectations for the console.

While the company had initially estimated Q3 sales for the device would reach five million, that was revised down to four million before revealing a final tally of 3.5 million sold.

Neither Frostbite 3 or Unreal Engine 4 will support the Wii U, which may keep some developers who want to use the latest game engine technology from producing games for the console.
