Developers can use a webcam to capture and stream data to game engine

Faceware Live plug-in brings real-time facial animation to UE4

Faceware Technologies has launched a new Faceware Live plug-in for Unreal Engine 4.

The markerless tech enables developers to capture facial movements with any camera, such as an onboard computer video or webcam. This data is then streamed into the game engine to drive a character’s facial animation in real-time via the Unreal Persona animation system.

No pricing information was provided on the plug-in.

“The ability to combine the power of the real-time performance capture pipeline of Faceware Live, and the power and flexibility of Unreal Engine 4, gives developers an incredibly powerful tool,” said Norman Wang, director of development at Faceware Live co-developer Opaque Multimedia.

“Developers will be delighted to see how easily they can access the data from the Faceware plugin through the native Blueprint interface.”
