GameSpot hit with round of layoffs

CBS-owned online gaming publication GameSpot has suffered an unspecified number of layoffs, former employees and the company itself have confirmed.

Ex-GameSpot reviewer Carolyn Petit posted a series of posts on her Twitter account detailing her recent exit from the site.

"Today was my last day at GameSpot. It was a dream to work there, and I’m very proud of the work I did,” Petit said.

I walk out alongside some colleagues I am honored and privileged to have worked with. And I will miss working with everyone at GS so much."

Games Industry has since received confirmation from a company representative that the move impacted a few” staff members.

"GameSpot did some shifting of internal resources as part of our long-term content and user engagement strategy. A few positions were impacted,” the rep stated.

No word yet on the exact number of employees affected by the move, but the cuts allegedly extend beyond the editorial team. CBS also owns online gaming properties Giant Bomb, GameFAQs, and onGamers.
