Developer says layoffs will not affect current DLC productions

Layoffs at BioShock developer Irrational Games

BioShock Infinite developer Irrational Games has made a number at layoffs at its studio.

Confirming a round of layoff to Kotaku, a representative for the studio said: “In an effort to streamline our processes I am sad to confirm that we let go a total of eight employees today.

“Any studio’s greatest asset is the group of people that make up the whole, and as such it was extremely hard to make this decision and there is never a good time for this to happen. As co-workers and friends, we wish them the very best.”

The Massachusetts developer released BioShock Infinite to much excitement and moderate commercial success. Though, publisher 2K has not sad whether the game has been profitable given its lengthy five-year development time.

Since shipping the game it have been working on downloadable content for the title, with the first add-on, Clash in the Clouds, released in July.

Irrational is now working on a two-part Burial at Sea add-on that will bring Infinite’s lead characters, Booker and Elizabeth, to Rapture, undersea haven turned sour from the first two BioShock games.

Irrational added that the layoffs are not expected to affect development of the DLC in any way.
