Deleted tweets liken staff cuts to "a slaughter"

Layoffs hit Perfect World Entertainment

Perfect World Entertainment has laid off an unknown number of staff, with reports suggesting a significant portion of its workforce has been affected.

MMO site Massively Overpowered reports the "potentially massive" layoffs were first revealed via a tweet by Ben PerLee, former PR for Perfect World. The original tweet, and a second calling the job cuts "a slaughter" have since been deleted.

There has been no official word on how many staff have been affected by the layoffs, but certain members indicate jobs have definitely been lost.

Matt Miller of Perfect World subsidiary Cryptic Studios has confirmed that he has been laid off:

Massively Overpowered also observes that Captain Smirk, previously community manager for Star Trek Online, has removed all reference to his job title from his Twitter account.

The confirmed layoffs seem to centre around Star Trek Online, with no word on whether they affect Neverwinter or non-Cryptic IP. Any threads discussing the cuts on the Star Trek Online message boards have been locked by moderators.
