$1m Halo World Championship starts this Winter

Microsoft making ‘biggest investment in Xbox eSports history’ for Halo 5

Microsoft is making its biggest investment in Xbox eSports history with Halo 5: Guardians, it has claimed.

The platform holder signalled its intention to go big on eSports by showing footage from a competitive game of capture the flag in the upcoming sci-fi shooter during its Gamescom press conference.

It then announced that it will be launching the Halo World Championship in the coming Winter. The prize pool for the contest currently stands at over $1m.

Though a smaller prize pool than seen in some other eSports competitons, notably DOTA 2, League of Legends and Smite, the large investment shows Microsoft is keen on breaking into the rising eSports scene.
