NaturalMotion: ‘iPhone middleware will be commonplace’

Speaking in an interview with Develop published online today, NaturalMotion’s CEO Torsten Reilhas revealed that he beleives iPhone middleware is set to become a standard for those creating games for the platform.

"While the need is only nascent at this stage, fast forward a few years and I think it will be commonplace to use third party game technologies on mobile platforms," said Reilhas, who also admitted he has been "very surprised" by the processing power of the iPhone.

As animation specialist and creator of Morpheme, Endorphin and Euphoria, NaturalMotion has recently collaborated with London developer IdeadWorks 3D on American football title Backbreaker, which used the former’s middleware tech in attempting to bring console-quality game design to the iPhone – a task at which it appears to have largely succeeded.
