Developer looking for new source of funding to keep company alive

Report: Molten Games lays off entire staff

Online free-to-play game studio Molten Games is believed to have lost its funding and laid off all of its employees, according to reports.

The developer was set up just one year ago by veterans from Blizzard and Sony Online Entertainment, backed by publisher NCsoft, but Gamasutra has claimed the developer is now in dire straits.

It has seemingly yet to officially close and its founders are thought to be searching for new sources of funding, but has yet to find a backer.

The studio’s director of technology Joshua Kriegshauser has also revealed two videos showing alpha gameplay of its first title, tweeting "Too bad it had to end so soon".

IGDA San Diego meanwhile has posted confirmation on Facebook that the studio has laid off all its employees.

"We’re getting word from contacts at Molten Games that the studio has lost its funding and laid off its employees," said Dylan Marquez.

"They are currently seeking funding to continue development. Let’s be proactive and help our fellow developers land on their feet."
