Mobile developer’s demise due to client exiting games market

Roadhouse Interactive closure confirmed

Concrete confirmation has come through that Roadhouse Interactive has indeed shut down.

CEO James Hursthouse told VentureBeat the studio closed earlier this month, laying off 120 employees in the process. When Develop previously reported on the firm’s rumoured collapse, there was no official word from Roadhouse.

Hursthouse attributed the studio’s fate primarily to the loss of a major client – an unnamed apps publisher – that decided to exit the games business. While titles such as Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast fared reasonably well, it wasn’t enough to keep Roadhouse afloat.

The Iron Maiden mobile RPG has since been taken over by publisher Nodding Frog Interactive.

Hursthouse stressed that Roadhouse Interactive was able to fulfill all of its payroll obligations before shutting down.
