Chief exec will be succeeded by Kati Levoranta after just one year

Rovio CEO Pekka Rantala stepping down

Rovio has revealed that its CEO Pekka Rantala will be stepping down from his role.

Rantala has only served in the position for a year, but will be replaced by Kati Levoranta in early 2016, according to TechCrunch. Levoranta currently serves as chief legal officer.

The change was attributed to “a ‘corporate’ decision making process that left the company slow to respon to the competition”.

Further restructuring planned will see the Angry Birds firm’s two main units – video games and other media – operate more independently. Former Rovio CEO Mikael Hed will lead the media unit, while head of external products Wilhelm Taht will head up the games business.

The news follows layoffs just two months ago, where over 200 staff were cut from the company.
