Veteran designer joining King as VP of design

Steve Meretzky announces King appointment

In a public Facebook post today veteran games developer Steve Meretzky announced he was joining mobile games outfit King as VP of design, primarily to work on "a super-secret new project".

Meretzky is a develop with over 30 years of experience, becoming famous for his work with
Infocom, an 80’s text adventure developer. Meretzky was instrumental in famous text adventures like The Hitchhiker’s Guide, a game he co-designed with Douglas Adams himself. Over the course of his career he’s worked at a host of other studios with a variety of genres, before most recently working at GSN Games, where he was shuffled out in a reorganisation of the company in July.

He told GamesIndustry.Biz at the time that any new job would involve both "an interesting creative challenge" and "a huge pile of money". The appointment at King could represent a weird homecoming for Meretzky, as he’ll be returning under Activision’s umbrella, the company who acquired and then closed Infocom back in the eighties. Activision later merged with Blizzard and Activision-Blizzard acquired King earlier this year.
