Titanfall: Frontline mobile game cancelled

Respawn has announced the cancellation of mobile title Titanfall: Frontline, just four months after it was announced. The spin-off strategy card game was currently in closed beta on iOS and Android, but now the studio says it will shut down the servers at the end of January.

The developer explained its decision on the game’s website: It is our goal to create the best Titanfall mobile games that showcase the fast-paced action, mobility and, of course, the power of Titans in this iconic series. We’ve learned an incredible amount in the beta test of Titanfall: Frontline, but in the end felt the experience wasn’t ready to deliver the intense action-packed gameplay synonymous with Titanfall.”

The statement continued: Titanfall: Frontline’s closed beta will be winding down in the next few days, and servers will go offline on January 20, 2017. We want to thank you for your support of Titanfall: Frontline.”

Respawn announced a partnership with Korean games company Nexon and in-house mobile studio Particle City (founded by Respawn’s Vince Zampella) back in October, to produce several” mobile titles set in the Titanfall universe. The partnership is still ongoing so the studio will work on other Titanfall-based mobile games in the future, the statement added:

While it’s never easy to cancel a game, we’re excited to take some of the concepts we saw resonate with players and build off of them in future Titanfall mobile games.”

Respawn and EA’s Titanfall 2 hit shelves at the end of October to disappointing physical sales. Digital sales also fell short but EA CCO Peter Moore then said they were going to be selling Titanfall 2 on a global basis for many, many years."
