Unity adds Xbox One X support to engine

Unity has announced that the Unity engine now supports development for the Xbox One X.

Writing on the Unity blog, the company said that "taking advantage of the increased power and 4K HDR output of the Xbox One X is as easy as changing some quality settings."

The engine already allows for development across the entire Xbox family (Xbox One and Xbox One S) and development for the new platform is no different to the current lineup of consoles. However, you will now be able to develop games that utilise 4K resolution or HDR output.

As normal, you will still need an Xbox One development kit, which you can get from Microsoft or by applying using the ID@Xbox program. Then you will be able to access and download the Unity Xbox One development add-on.

The Xbox One X, formerly Project Scorpio, was announced at E3 2016 and was named and detailed earlier this year, again at E3. The console is going to be the most powerful home console on the market when it is released in November this year (2017).

We have contacted Unity to confirm that it is an upgrade that is available to all of the iterations of the engine and will update once we receive word.
