Thomas Was Alone creator's next game billed as 'Minecraft meets Metal Gear Solid'

Video: Mike Bithell unveils 3D indie title Volume

Mike Bithell, the creator of indie hit Thomas Was Alone, has unveiled his next solo project.

The game is called Volume and is already being pitched by some parts of the press as ‘Minecraft meets Metal Gear Solid’.

“[REDACTED] Does not kill. That would be far too easy,” the first details read.

“Instead, he commits his crimes through stealth. He sneaks, he distracts, he avoids. He is never seen, and seldom heard. As he grows in popularity and notoriety, so will his inventory. Blackjacks, bugles, thunderclaps and veils are just some of the tools at [REDACTED]’s disposal.

“The game will be released with hundreds of challenging and exciting environments, but that is only the beginning. Every area of the game can be remixed, added to and expanded upon. The community are free to take the game in any direction they want, even releasing their own takes on the core levels. This is a game which will evolve, warp and grow as players make their mark on [REDACTED]’s legend.”

More details are promised at GameCity in October. It’s not yet known what platform the game will be released on.

Having previously worked for the likes of Bossa Studios and Blitz, Blithell’s first solo title Thomas Was Alone was released on PC last July before making the jump to PlayStation earlier this year.

The game proved a critical hit, helped in part by its inclusion of Danny Wallace as narrator. Bithell even took home a Develop Award for his first solo effort.
