Reality show Gamerz, starring hopefuls chasing a CS:GO pro contract, kicks off

Yesterday, the Gamerz esports reality TV show, featuring 12 players competing for a chance to win a six-month professional gaming contract.

The 12 were picked at an open casting session at DreamHack Winter 2016, and a few hundred Scandinavian CS:GO players looking to take the step to a pro-gaming career were whittled down just to twelve by CS players Marcus ‘Delpan’ Larsson and Zainab ‘zAAz’ Turkie.

The contestants will now live in the Gamerz gaming house for the next three weeks, with the five best players earning the six-month contract. However, the twist is that when any of the players in the house seem to be having performance issues, they can be challenged by an audience member who will have the chance to take their place.

Viewers can watch the house on nearly every streaming service live, if you would prefer the daily videos then it’s on the GamerzGlobal YouTube channel. Having watched the first couple of videos, it definitely skews towards the reality over the gaming. There are sob stories and engineered dramas already playing out.

I’m sceptical, but keen to see whether it leads to any real opportunities for the young hopefuls.
