SK Gaming has beaten FaZe Clan in the ECS Season Three finals in London, notching up their second LAN victory in as many weeks during their European summer holiday.
SK beat out Astralis in a drawn-out match to get to the finals, while Cloud9 fell to FaZe Clan to give them the final spot. It was an impressive turnout for FaZe, who outperformed expectations to end up in the finals’ soundproofed booths.
Even more impressive was that FaZe took the first map with a 16-11 scoreline, before SK took the second map and third maps, the latter after a tense overtime stand-off. FaZe Clan will have felt like a win was within their grasp, while SK will be happy with a $250,000 prize, and their fourth championship win of 2017.
SK’s Fer also picked up HLTV’s MVP award for the event, outperforming every player on raw statistics during the offline tournament.
SK have beat nearly every major team in Counter Strike in the last few weeks, and since the start of the year have been establishing dominance over the competitive scene. If they win again at ESL One in Cologne (which runs from July 4 to July 9), then it’ll be hard to claim they’re anything but the best Counter-Strike team in the world right now.
After ESL One, all eyes will be on the Majors. If the Brazilian Counter-Strike team was hoping to pick up a clean sweep of victories during their European visit, they’re halfway there.
