Twitch to roll out new and improved subscription service

Twitch is planning to roll out a revamped subscription system for partnered streamers that could see a significant bump in revenues for popular streamers.

This feature is due to roll out soon, and Twitch partners will be able to opt in later this month. This will add several new tiers to the current subscription system. The current subscription service is a one-size-fits-all $4.99 per month option, but now viewers will have the option to subscribe for $9.99 and $24.99 a month, gaining access to several new perks on their favourite channels.

The update will also bring the addition of subscription gifting,

which will allow people to purchase a channel subscription for a user not subscribed to a channel. The community has been clamouring for the feature for a while, so it’s a positive step for the community, and for streamers.

An earlier leaked email suggested that a $9.99 subscription would be worth two subscribers, while a $24.99 subscription is worth six. This could mean a significant revenue boost for partners, which makes Twitch streaming as a full-time job increasingly viable, at a time when Youtube is catching a lot of flak for reducing the revenues of Youtubers.
