Mighty No.9 live-action film in the works

A live-action movie based on Keiji Inafune’s Kickstarter game Mighty No.9 has been revealed to be in development.

Legendary Digital Media and Contradiction Films – the firms who brought us fellow video game series Dead Rising to the silver screen – are handling the Mighty No.9 flick.

Mighty No.9 is being developed by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, and raised an impressive $3.8m via Kickstarter. A physical release is on the way, courtesyof Dead Island publisher Deep Silver.

Earlier this week it was revealed that Inafune was working on yet another Mega Man successor via Kickstarter called Red Ash: The Indelible Legend.

"The announcement that Legendary Digital is collaborating with Contradiction and Comcept on creating a live-action project based on Mighty No. 9 is really amazing, not only for myself and the rest of the team at Comcept who worked on the game, but also for all the fans who have supported the project," said Inafune.

"This collaboration will give our creation the ability to reach people all over the world. Thanks to all of your support, we have fulfilled another one of our dreams."

Legendary’s SVP of development and production Greg Siegel added: ”We are honoured to have another opportunity to translate Inafune’s immersive worlds, engaging characters and action-packed gameplay into a live-action project for video game fans and fans of streaming video alike."
