Miitomo arrives in the UK this week

Nintendo’s first foray into the world of smartphone gaming will be available in the UK this Thursday (March 31st).

Those who have already registered for a Nintendo Account should have received an email informing them of the upcoming launch. The title will launch in the US on the same day. It will be available on both iOS and Android.

Miitomo has done well for itself since launching in Japan earlier this month. In the four days following its release on March 17th the app was downloaded over 1m times, claiming the top spot in Japan’s free iOS app charts, Bloomberg reports.

Shares in Nintendo jumped 8.2 per cent on the news. However, while it topped the download charts it could manage only 176th in the iOS revenue charts. In the Android charts it hit 268th.

While Miitomo should achieve decent download numbers in the West, where gamers will be equally as interested to see how Nintendo takes to third party hardware, it remains to be seen whether this fascination will lead to cash spending.
