New version of Minecraft set for Amazon Fire TV

Minecraft will be one of the big third-party launching on Amazon Fire TV.

The video streaming box/games console hybrid has been backed by a number of developers, and Minecraft, Asphalt 8 and an endless-runner game based on Monsters University are all amongst the first third party titles. EA, Ubisoft and Take-Two are also on-board.

Minecraft was shown during a special Amazon Fire TV press event, and seemed to run smoothly and at a decent speed.

The device costs just $99 and launches in the US today. No confirmed date has been set for the UK, and judging by the wait between Kindle Fire and its eventual arrival on these shores, we may be in for a bit of a wait.

Amazon is also developing a number of first party titles, including Sev Zero.
