E3 08: PS3 and PSP movie service goes live now!

Sony has lifted the lid on its upcoming movie and TV service on PSN, which, in a surprise move, will launch later tonight – in North America, at least.

Interestingly, any content acquired can be viewed either on PS3, or transferred to PSP for use on the move – and importantly, the content can exist on both devices at the same time. Content can either be transferred from PS3 to PSP, or alternatively downloaded over PC and transferred manually.

The service will have the backing of major studios such as Sony Pictures, Fox, MGM, Lionsgate, Warner, Disney, Paramount and Turner from day one.

Material will be available in both SD and HD, and can be both rented and purchased.

The service is planned for Europe, but there’s no word yet on dates or pricing.
