SCEA: No plans for PS3 price cut

SCEA has denied recent reports that the company is looking to re-evaluate the price of PS3 early next year.

Amongst the plethora of titbits revealed in SCEE’s leaked internal meeting yesterday was the claim that the company intends to make the European PS3 price more competitive” next March.

However, a spokesperson from Sony’s North American arm has now told Edge Online: There are no plans for a price reduction on PS3 in March 2009, and anything reported on or discussed otherwise is purely rumour or speculation.”

March 31st is the end of Sony’s fiscal year, so were the firm to make a move on price it would seem a sensible time to do so. Currently in the UK Nintendo’s Wii retails for 179.99, the Xbox 360 costs between 129.99 and 229.99 depending on the SKU and the 80GB PS3 costs 299.99.
