GAME reviewing staff contracts

Leading UK video games retailer GAME has confirmed to MCV that it has begun a period of consultation with staff members concerning their working hours, with a view to possible future alterations.

Staff members were told of the plans this morning in meetings at both GAME and Gamestation stores across the UK.

We continually review the sales patterns across our entire store portfolio to make sure that we have the right number of people in place to serve customers throughout the day,” a spokesperson told MCV.

Today we have held meetings with the teams in our stores to discuss ways that each store can better serve the customers in their local area, including a review of staff rotas and shift patterns.

We are very focused on supporting our teams, and thank them for their continued hard work and understanding.”

As is always the case with procedures of this nature, there are a number of possible outcomes for employees – including changes in hours, role relocations and possibly job losses, although the spokesperson added that this would be a ‘last resort.’

The news comes on the back of the confirmation of the closure of 18 stores and all of the chain’s 25 Debenhams concessions last week.
