Minecraft confirmed for iPad, iPhone

Having emerged as one of the biggest indie games success of 2010, PC hit Minecraft is getting an official port to Apple’s iOS devices such as the iPhone and iPad.

The confirmation comes direct from the game’s creator Markus Persson.

Gamasutra reports that the port is being handled by Aron Neiminen who recently joined Persson’s studio Mojang.

The ports are not currently expected to be as fully-featured as the PC original and will instead focus on the elements that are best suited to the touch-screen interface.

Remember, too, that the PC game itself is still officially in the beta phase and isn’t expected to receive a full release until later in the year. To date the game has sold in excess of 1.3m downloads.

Minecraft is scheduled to arrive on iOS devices some time this year.
