Payday 2 devs apologise over microtransaction mess

Payday 2 studio Overkill has apologised for a number changes to the game that have annoyed its community.

In mid-October, the firm introduced in-game payments, something met with a firmly negative reaction from the title’s fans. Despite this vocal reaction, Overkill said the microtransactions were ‘working as expected’ before introducing even more payments.

This last round of microtransactions forced the firm’s community mods to go on strike following a number of death threats from fans.

Now, producer Almir Listo has officially apologised on the Payday 2 Steam community page.

The past few weeks have been some of the most challenging in the history of this community,” Listo said.

Players have been angry with us, media have written about us en masse and our volunteer moderators went on strike. For all the distress we’ve caused the past few weeks, I’d just like to take the time and say that we’re sorry. We’ve done a lot of things right in the past, but these past few weeks we screwed up.

We need to get better at many things, and we will do our best to improve as soon as possible.”
