Payday 2 update adds microtransactions, and fans are delighted

That’s actually a lie – fans are right cheesed off.

We’ve made it clear that Payday 2 will have no microtransactions whatsoever (shame on you if you thought otherwise!)”

That was developer Overkill in May 2013, responding to rumours of in-game payments being added to the game.

Fast forward to October 2015, however, and Overkill has revealed the title’s $19.99 Black Market update. Said update adds the chance to earn safes at the end of matches, some of which contain weapon boosts and modifications. These can only be opened with a drill. And that drill costs $2.49, Game Informer reports.

As is the way, the game’s Steam page is rapidly filling with angry reviews from frustrated players. Its subreddit isn’t the chirpiest of hangouts, either.

This isn’t the first sticky situation for Payday. The game’s Xbox One Edition is still not working for many, months after its summer release, and a fix might not be with us until the end of the year.
