Rumours point to 2017 slip for Horizon: Zero Dawn

One of the internet’s more reliable tipsters has said that Horizon: Zero Dawn will miss its 2016 release.

Well…Horizon: Zero Dawn’s getting delayed to early 2017 from what I’m told,” shinobi602 said on Twitter. Going to look splendid on PS4k though.

Just to clarify, Horizon’s going to look absolutely incredible on every PS4! The PS4k comment wasn’t meant as anything more.”

Shinobi602 has a pretty decent track record for leaks, breaking the news of various things including Quantum Break’s delay to 2015, the existence of Halo 2: Anniversary and the name of Halo 5: Guardians. They also were the first to reveal that Guerrilla’s next game would be open-world and feature mechanised dinosaurs.

If true, could it be that the game has been delayed to afford it an extra level of polish for the upcoming PS4 Neo? If so, that’s unlikely to delight some PS4 owners – although certainly not those who plan to upgrade to the new machine.

In June of last year Sony Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida admitted that he was nervous about the game’s E3 reveal due to its female protagonist.

"She’s a female lead character. That has always been the vision by the team, but we had a discussion. Is it risky to do a female character?” he admitted.

"The concern came after the game was in development. We started to show it to many more people internally and they had questions about it. So we worked with our marketing groups to do this focus testing. The focus testing reaction was positive and that made us feel good, but you know it’s a limited number of people that we were able to test."
