Disney has opted against renewing the Star Wars 1313 trademark.
The game, once in development at the now defunct LucasArts, was not only one of the as-of-then unannounced next-gen’s poster boys but was also the galaxy’s best hope for a Star Wars game that finally fulfilled the IPs destiny.
However, The Escapist reports that the United States Patent and Trademark Office now classifies the Star Wars 1313 trademark as "abandoned because no statement of use or extension request timely filed after notice of allowance was issued".
As the site points out, there’s nothing to stop Disney – or indeed new Star Wars game boss EA – filing to pick up the trademark, but its descent into lapse bodes poorly for the title, which was well into development before being struck down.
The game had even undergone a re-working that installed everyone’s favourite intergalactic bounty hunter Boba Fett as it’s main protagonist.
