The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt takes the top spot, is the biggest launch of the year to date

It’s been an impressive month for Japanese publisher Bandai Namco as it takes its third No.1 in as many weeks with The Witcher 3.

The action RPG by CD Projekt RED smashed the Week One sell-through of Battlefield Hardline by 53 per cent, making it the biggest launch of the year so far.

Back in 2012, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings also launched at No.1, but Wild Hunt’s Week One sales were 608 per cent higher than its predecessor. The PS4 takes the winning share on Wild Hunt sales with a 63 per cent share.

Last week’s No.1, Bandai Namco’s Project CARS drops to fifth place as sales drip 56 per cent.

Meanwhile, Koch Media’s Farming Simulator 15 debuts in second place. This is likely due to the fact that the title is available on four new formats, including the PS4 and Xbox One.

And Grand Theft Auto V remains in third place, with sales increasing 23 per cent week-on-week. That isn’t the only title to have a decent sales increase week-on-week, with FIFA 15 increasing 49 per cent.

Below is the software Top 10 for the week ending May 23rd:

1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Bandai Namco
2. Farming Simulator 15, Koch Media
3. Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar
4. FIFA 15, EA
