Vita sales explode following Japanese price cut

Sony’s decision to slash the Vita’s price to just 19,980 – that’s around 140! – has certainly reaped rewards.

The powerful handheld shifted 62,543 units in Japan last week according to Media Create data. That’s a very significant jump over the 11,456 units sold the week before.

It wasn’t quite enough to beat the market leader, however, with Nintendo’s 3DS selling 77,439 units.

Perhaps the worst news was reserved for Wii U, which came in behind Sony’s PSP once again – 11,171 units verses 10,021.
