Tesco launches drive thru service

UK supermarket Tesco has become the first to launch a drive thru service with the arrival of a new trial in its Baldock Extra store in Hertfordshire.

Customers can place their order online as normal and then reserve a two-hour slot at which they can collect from participating stores. Staff will place orders directly into the shopper’s car boot, meaning customers need not step foot outside of their car.

They can collect their shop on their way home from work or at any other time that suits them during our extensive collection hours,” Tesco.com and Tesco Direct CEO Laura Wade-Grey stated.

This will be especially popular with busy mums who have the school run and children’s activities to manage. It also offers a solution to parents who want to avoid the challenge of shopping in a busy store with children in tow but can’t afford the time to stay in for the shop to arrive at their door.”

A 2 fee is charged for the Click and Collect service.
