Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate ships 1m in the West

Capcom is celebrating a milestone achievement for its Monster Hunter series in the European and American market.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, which was released on February 13th, has now shipped 1m units in the West. This makes it the fastest selling game in the series in the region. Capcom notes that it also has the highest Metascore of any Monster Hunter game from the Western media.

The game sold 3m units worldwide in its first week, but the bulk of those were in Japan. The original game on which it was based was also a big seller.

The game launched alongside Nintendo’s New 3DS and offers some additional functionality for owners of the new hardware, such as camera control using the new c-stick, customisable buttons and beefed-up visuals.

It’s also the first game in the series to offer online multiplayer on a handheld – previous releases have relied on local wireless.

The series has in total sold over 32m units worldwide and has been a massive success in Japan in Asia. Whether such accomplishments could ever be replicated outside of Japan has always been open for question, however.
