Lazard Capital Markets clarifies statement

Angry Birds ‘not the most downloaded PSN game’

An analysts group has had to renege on its previous claim that Angry Birds is the most downloaded PSN game of all time.

In a corrected analyst note, Lazard Capital Markets’ Colin Sebastian has now claimed Angry Birds “was the most downloaded paid game through the PSN for January and February 2011”.

The game, built by Finnish studio Rovio, was released on the PlayStation Network in January.

Angry Birds, which had apparently cost Rovio $140,000 to develop, is said to have been downloaded over 100 million times across various mobile devices.

Numerous editions are available on iOS, and a free ad-supported version has proven popular on Android.

Angry Birds Rio, the latest edition in the series, has soared past ten million downloads just ten days since launch, the game’s developer has claimed.

Rovio, backed now with $42 million in VC funding, is pondering a jump on the New York Stock Exchange.
