GamerMania officially cancelled but new event set for 2017

New video games expo GamerMania has been cancelled.

It was set to take place between July 29th and August 1st at London Excel.

The event was being organised by MCM, the team behind the successful Comic Con events in May and October. GamerMania was announced in September last year as part of an expansion for the firm, yet it has struggled to attract publisher support – particularly with Gamescom, GAMEFest and EGX taking place in August and September.

MCM says it will still create a dedicated games event in 2017, but will look to differentiate itself from the competition.

"We can confirm that the GamerMania event is not going ahead as planned this year. After a long period of consultation — we’ve decided to focus on delivering an MCM games event on a grander scale in 2017.

"We feel that, given the number of new games events and activities in 2016 we need to provide something different, we really want to give fans something spectacular. MCM are in discussions with major partners in order to deliver that vision and will make further announcements as soon as possible. We are grateful to all the people who expressed an interest in the event — we’re looking forward to seeing you all next summer!”
