REVEALED: The biggest UK games websites

2013 was a bumper year for the UK games media, but who came out on top?

MCV has obtained the latest ComScore stats for the last 12 months, which shows that – perhaps unsurprisingly – IGN was the top UK video games website by a huge margin.

It’s also a great illustration of the rise of Twitch. The livestreaming platform continues to demand column inches thanks to its partnerships with Sony, Microsoft and mobile developers, not to mention the Twitch Plays Pokmon phenomenon. And as you can see, the site has risen dramatically over 12 months, overtaking GameSpot to take No.2.

There’s also been some significant growth for Eurogamer, which is closing the gap on GameSpot.

Another interesting analysis surrounds the months where the video games media performed best. September was by far the strongest month for the UK games media, primarily down to the launch of Grand Theft Auto V.

Meanwhile, excitement around Xbox One and PlayStation 4 meant that October and November were also big traffic periods for sites.

ComScore reports are trusted by media buyers, and this report includes both desktop and mobile traffic. It is the only analytics company with which most major sites consistently take part in.
