PlayStation TV now slashed to $19.99 in US

The ignominious fall of the PlayStation TV has seen Sony’s streaming microconsole slashed to an all-time low in the US.

American retailer Best Buy is currently offering the console for just $19.99, which represents a 75 per cent saving over its $80 RRP. Note that the SKU in question doesn’t include a bundled controller of any sort and only has 1GB of integrated memory.

The reveal of the PlayStation Vita TV, as it was called at the time, was greeted with great excitement back in September 2013. The machine even sold out on Amazon Japan when it was made available for pre-order.

However, a little over a year later it became clear that things weren’t panning out well for the device, with $20 shaved off both SKUs in the US. A month later some retailers were even giving the machine away with some PS4 console purchases.

In March of this year Sony slashed its UK price from 84.99 all the way down to 44.99 but again, the console soon found itself being handed out for nothing with some PS4s.

In June of this year Sony Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida admitted the device didn’t capture the consumers’ imagination”.
