TV DVR support heading to Xbox One this year – report

Xbox One users will be able to DVR television shows later this year, according to a new report.

Tech blogger Paul Thurrott originally reported that his sources confirmed Microsoft would offer a replacement for Windows Media Center on Windows 10 that would include a new playback feature.

Windows Media Center has been relied on to record and watch TV shows on PCs, and Thurrott’s sources claim Microsoft will start offering DVR capabilities using Xbox One before the end of 2015.

Microsoft’s Gabe Aul later backed a portion Thurrott’s report on Twitter.

We can confirm that due to decreased usage, Windows Media Center will not be part of Windows 10,” he said – though didn’t specifically elaborate on its replacement.

Xbox One users can currently watch TV and DVR gameplay on the console, but it lacks the ability to record programming for later viewing.
