Resident Evil 7 will ‘blow our minds’

The producer of Revelations 2 has said he is confident that the team working on Resident Evil 7 will produce something good enough to dispel the nightmares of Resident Evil 6.

"Unfortunately we work on Revelations and that’s kind of it. We don’t really have a window into whatever else is going on,” Michiteru Okabe told Videogamer.

That would be a separate team and whatever that team is doing we’re confident that those guys are going to do something that’s going to blow our minds. We can’t wait to basically be there with you guys to find out whatever the heck that is."

Capcom itself described 2012’s Resident Evil 6 as a commercial failure”, and while it was by no means a critical disaster (it was awarded 39/40 by Famitsu) the release certainly fell well short of the standards set by predecessors such as Resident Evil 4.

Resident Evil 6’s developers have previously alluded to the game’s balance being thrown out of kilter by the want to appeal to as wide a market as possible.

"We have obviously seen the consumer response and the PR response," former Capcom marketing boss Michael Pattison told MCV in 2013.

"It was a mixed bag, as we saw from the review scores. We have got to take that on-board, we can’t ignore that, and we have to take that onto the next game when we make the next Resident Evil. We probably put too much content in there, there were comments from consumers that said it felt bloated.”
